The owner of the winery is His Highness, Carl von Württemberg - The Duke of Württemberg & Head of the House of Württemberg. Currently, his son Michael, Duke of Württemberg runs the vast winery estate. The Duke of Württemberg (Herzog Von Württemberg) estate owns around 40 hectares of vineyards in the Württemberg growing region. They are decedents from King William II of Württemberg. From the middle of the 17th century to the end of the 19th century, the House of Württemberg acquired seven of the best vineyards in the country. Today the vineyards extend from Stetten im Remstal to Maulbronn. Each of the six individual sites has its specific terroir, which is reflected in the wines. Nowhere else in Württemberg can you taste so many different wines of distinguished origin from a single source.

The Duke of Württemberg's Winery & Estate

For generations, the Duke of Wurttemberg's winery has stood for special wines from the best locations in the State. Striving for harmony with nature and technology within the vineyard.

As well as in the wine cellar and the combination of old traditions and new knowledge is the winery’s recipe for success. That means enjoying wine at the highest level, because the Herzog von Württemberg winery - The Duke of  Wurttemberg's winery - has to vinify the finest terroir-related wines that reflect the individuality of each grape variety in the wine.

The winery has been a member of the VDP (Association of Prädikatsweingüter eV) since 1986. The grape eagle on every bottle is the distinguishing mark and vouches for the high quality of its products.

Appointed as UK's exclusive importer and distributor for The Duke of Württemberg's Winery, we are honoured to have selected a range of wines from the estate. Increased in popularity are the sparkling wines made from the famous German Riesling to Pinot Noir. They are exemplary for celebrations and for special occasions. We are pleased to introduce the Zweigelt from their estate together with the ATTEMPTO collection. The prize of our selection has to be "DUX" or "The Duke". It is the top cuvée of the winery with a combination of Cabernet and Merlot. The long maturation time in barriques leaves a powerful, yet fine-meshed taste that is reminiscent of ripe forest berries, plums and cherries. "Dux" took 1st place at the VINUM German Red Wine Award 2020. You can learn more about the wines and purchase them from our online store or selected retailers across the UK.

They have defined a four-level VDP.classification pyramid that divides the quality of their wines according to their origin: VDP.GUTSWEIN, VDP.ORTSWEIN, VDP.ERSTE LAGE® and VDP.GROSSE LAGE®. The VDP.Traubadler on the bottle cap is the seal of quality of VDP.Wines. It stands for artisanal winemaking from excellent vineyards.

The House of Württemberg

The House of Württemberg is a German royal family and dynasty from Württemberg. The House can be traced back to its origin to around 1080 as the ancestors of the modern Württemberg and where the castle that was built. This follows the creation of the Duchy of Württemberg at the Diret of Worms in 1495 with Count Eberhard V raising to the title of Duke (Herzog) by the German King and later Holy Roman Emperor, Maximillian I.

During the House's history in the reign of Nepoleon I, and being an ally of Napoleon, Württemberg then became part of the Confederation of the Rhine. Duke Frederick II of Württemberg was made Elector in May 1803 and by January 1806 he was made The King of Württemberg.

After the German Revolution all monarchies in Germany were abolished, King Wilhelm II abdicated and following on his death it was passed onto Albrecht, Duke of Württemberg. Since 1975, Duke Carl of Württemberg is now the Head of the House of Württemberg. The family still owns estates and castles in Monrepos, Altshausen and Friedrichshafen.
